We use USB thumbdrives & External Harddisk all the time on our PC. However how many times when you try to 'safely remove' it, an annoying error message such as the one below pops out?

this device is currently in use

I just found out that one of the programs that I reviewed before is able to solve this issue easily.

1) Install Unlocker, right click on your external drive (for example drive G:\ here) and select 'Unlocker' as shown:

     safely remove device

2) All the programs that are preventing your drive from being 'safely removed' is shown. Click 'Unlock All' to free your harddisk!

     safely remove device 2

3) Now you could safely remove your USB Mass Storage like normal :)

     safely remove device 3

End Note:

If this method doesn't work, your thumbdrive/external harddisk might be infected with virus/malware which are accessing your drive data. In this case you'll need to run a virus scan or malware scan on your drive and try again.
