Want to remove the annoying autorun virus on your thumbdrive? Here's what you do..
1) Install Autorun Eater
2) When you execute the program, it will run at the background of your computer. Now plug in any thumb drive/external harddisk.
3) I tried it with one of my thumb drives and it didn't disappoint me. Screenshot below:
4) Click 'Remove autorun.inf' and it is gone forever!
End Note:
The program is set to autorun during startup so it will continue to run at the background and safeguard your pc 24 hours a day. But if you don't like the idea of that, follow the 2 steps below:
1) Right click on the program icon at the bottom right hand corner of your screen.
2) Click 'Remove Billy From System Startup'.
What is Autorun.inf virus?
You tried to excess your thumb drive in windows explorer by double clicking it.. but this window pops out instead:
There you go, you've infected with the autorun.inf virus :)
When an infected drive is accessed the traditional way(double-click), the 'autorun.inf' file executes the malware and your system gets infected. Most anti-virus applications also do not help you remove the 'autorun.inf' files after they clean up the malware. This causes the drive to be inaccessible using the traditional way of double-clicking.
Tips to avoid infecting this virus on any pc (without antivirus/this software whatsoever):
USB Flash Disk is the method most widely spread of this virus. When trying to access your USB Flash Disk, do not open with the double click, but with the right click and select Explore. This way is safer to avoid the viruses that enter through the autoruns included in USB Flash Disk.
